Death Note Trailer Removes Some Hope For A Successful Movie

Raise your hand if you even know what Death Note is? *raises hand. I am a late bloomer to this wonderful gem but among all the anime that I have seen in my years on this earth Death Note is one that captivates me. I am sure there are others that are just as good but this one caught my eye and I just enjoy everything about it. The characters, the story, the moral convictions, the atmosphere, the supernatural elements, the dark tone, and heavy drama all play a part as to why Death Note is so successful.

Originated from a popular Manga this story has been adapted to an animated series which then turned into a live action movie that spawned a sequel and a spin-off movie with one of their characters. There is only one thing left to do…adapt for the U.S. to make it more relatable to Americans.

So here we go, check out the trailer…

Now, I don’t have a problem with remakes and reboots. I think there are many successful ways to tell a story. Many people are attached to the ones they grew up with or have a connection with that has no room for different interpretation. However, it is a problem when you do take away the core value of what makes a story so great. Any movie or series that is loosely based on some other material should just be given a new name, character names, anything to tie it to the loosely used original material.

The trailer I am seeing above so far doesn’t really capture what makes Death Note so great. Sure, the plot is very similar but so far I’m looking at a trailer to something that could have just been made with a similar plot but a different title. If you want to take away the location, the ethnicity of the characters, and the tone of the movie just make your own movie. Start your own possible franchise. Death Note to me is good because of the character development. Most of the anime and movies are very dialogue driven. You learn so much about the people who are involved in this story and the psyche behind Light/Kira and his God complex, The obsession of Misa towards Light, and the strange and unusual methods of L one of the greatest detectives ever.

I haven’t seen the movie yet so I can’t make any final judgment call until I see the movie and I will be watching it. I just don’t see it in this trailer so I am a little skeptical.  I do like the fact that his specific manga is being recognized as a story that should be noticed by more people. I would have liked it to be as authentic as the manga is. I don’t want the exact story to be told to us, but if you change a few things in your own artistic eye, just make sure to keep the identity of the original material or make your own movie and don’t take the title and the fans of the original content.

After watching the trailer, are you excited for this version of Death Note?  Comment below and share your opinions, I’d love to hear from all of you. I am actually curious to hear from anyone who doesn’t know what Death Note is. Just from this trailer, are you interested in this movie based on what you have seen so far?

P.S. There is talk of white-washing the cast to make sure that this movie be seen by more Americans. It is unfortunate that this movie didn’t get the opportunity to showcase Asian actors and actress in the film. The diverse cast of putting a Caucasion and a African-American man as the two leads I don’t have a problem with. For the most part the explanation was that the two leads Nat Wolff (Light) and Lakeith Stanfield fit the setting of the movie. White and black actors are used because it takes place in Seattle. There are Asian people that do live in America. So you best believe I am going to watch those two like a hawk during the film and make sure I see some acting skilla that no Asian actor couldn’t perform for these roles.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Trailer Looks Like A Fun Ride Full Of Laughs And Action

Let’s talk about the first full trailer to the new movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. As the title hints at, we are taken into the game this time around and explore the jungle Alan Parrish (Robin Williams) lived in for 26 years. To keep it a little modern, they decided to whimsically send them to the jungle not by the original board game but through a video game instead. I personally was a little skeptical when hearing the idea of the movie. I personally would have loved to see the wonders of the game come out into the real world. Also for the portal to be a video game and not the board game was a little disappointing. After watching the first trailer, I must say that I am excited. It looks funny and there is plenty of action sequences that makes it look like a wild ride. Plus the intensity and jam-packed jungle animals and creatures we saw in the first are not missing from the action either which is good. Check out the trailer below.

As you can see, the movie has a stellar cast which includes buddy duo Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart who worked on Central Intelligence together, as well as Karen Gillan, and Jack Black who play the avatars of the titular video game 4 kids found in a basement of their school who are sent there to clean it up after getting detention. The four students take on the typical roles of character types you see in high school films including the Jock, the nerd, the awkward shy girl, and the hot popular girl. Choosing the avatars they play forces them to be something that they are not challenging them to walk a mile literally in the others shoes. The Nerd gets Dwayne Johnson, The Jock gets Kevin Hart who is no longer the tall toughest one in the group, The shy awkward girl gets the sexy women avatar who shows more skin than the men in the game. Which they poke fun at, and last but not least the popular girl got to be Jack Black who is a middle-aged man.

From the trailer, you see that there is more to the jungle then just the dangerous animals and creatures you saw from the first, It seems that Van Pelt is not the only human in the game. You also see that because it is a video game they all have specific skills that when the time is right they will be able to shine in their own way to help them get through the game.

I do have a few questions that I hope they answer like….

Is this the same exact jungle from the board game? They hinted that some evidence of Alan Parrish is in the jungle so even though this isn’t the board game, are they in the same jungle?

Seeing as the video game is based on the board game, how did the concept of the game come up since it looks like it was made back when Atari was made? I wonder how they are going to incorporate the timeline of how long this video game has been in play and if anyone else has played it and got sucked in.

Since they are in a video game, will they have extra lives if they happen to die or get hurt? Watching Jack Black almost get swallowed by a hippo, it looks like he will either lose a life and come back or they will poke fun that they are just avatars and not real people.

Which brings me to my next question, If they die or lose all their health in the game, will they die in real life? The trailer definitely highlights the fun and adventure of the game and what to expect but they didn’t capture the suspense and danger the first one had getting mixed in with the contents of the game. For me, that is what worked with the first one is that even though it is a kids film, these people were in danger.

With the comedy chops of the cast and the action pack sequences you got from the trailer, I am sure this will be a fun movie to watch.

Trailer: Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Looking back at my favorite movies of 2015. Kingsman: The Secret Service was my favorite movie of that year. Hearing about a sequel I have been waiting and waiting for the first trailer to be released and let me say that it was worth the wait.

The original squad is back…ALL OF THEM with some new members joining the fight in the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle directed by Matthew Vaughn. Get ready for some more high tech gadgets, wacky and high octane action sequences, and Taron Egerton back in the bow tie and the umbrella to save the day.

Check out the teaser trailer below showing little to the plot but enough to make you want to see it immediately.

Movie Trailer Reaction: Thor Ragnarok

Cate Blanchett for the MOTHER EFFIN’ WIN!

Just released a few hours ago the anticipated trailer for Thor Ragnarok from Marvel has been released and let me tell you it’s a good teaser.

Chris Hemsworth is back to dawn the hammer once more and save the day from a female foe this time. Cate Blanchett has checked her Marvel character off of her acting checklist playing Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death. She looks great, her outfits are on point. That head piece is everything. She has the look of “Don’t fuck with me” written all over her face in Cap letters when she caught the hammer. She wins MVP on this trailer. Can’t wait to see what she can do.

Along for the ride is the original Thor crew of players, Loki has returned after a short break from MCU. I am so glad to see him back. As far as villains go in the MCU, he is my favorite. Is he friend or foe in this one? Some newcomers have joined as well Like Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, and Tessa Thompson. What I am most interested in is seeing how Dr. Strange is incorporated in this. I heard he was in the movie as well.

This trailer brought on the action, the music made it more exciting and that closing scene with the reveal of the Hulk was Epic. Laughed so hard. Just see for yourself. Trailer down below.

It’s official, I can’t wait for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

I am on IMDB.com this morning doing a little research and I come across the latest teaser trailer to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It’s official now that I can’t wait for this movie to come out. The trailer reminded me how much fun the first movie is and the excellent chemistry between the guardians. Especially Groot who is still growing from being reborn at the end of the first movie. This trailer features more of him since you only saw a glimpse of him in the first teaser trailer.

Watch below and enjoy 2:48 mins of pure fun. Comment below what you liked about the trailer.

Have a great weekend moviegeeks.

This Movie Is Going To Ruin Me But In A Good Way.

What an amazing idea for a movie and Josh Gad, who brought Olaf from Frozen, alive and into our lives is the PERFECT choice to voice the main character of this movie which happens to be a dog.

So how is it going to ruin me? Just watch the trailer and you will see.

See! Don’t you see what I mean? Have you grabbed your box of tissues yet? If so, you know you are going to have all the feels by the end of this movie. Marley and Me made me col (cry out loud) to the point where you can’t breathe and you need to catch your breath to let out more sobs and tears.

This movie is going to do the same. I can feel it. What do you think moviegeeks? Does this movie look good to you? Comment below.
