Ep.22 Pinocchio & Pinocchio and the Emporer of the Night Double Feature

https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-trzic-9a2e32

Welcome back MGs. We have a double feature review episode for you this week. We get into the realm of dark and twisted films marketed to kids. We revisit the classic Disney’s Pinocchio and its unofficial sequel from Funmation Pinocchio and the Emporer of the Night. It turns out that Disney sued Funmation for this film for its similarities, we discuss that plus more on the confusing story and characters from both films. Did this film deserve to be sued? What other films out there were too dark for kids? We discuss this and more in this week’s episode of Movie Geek & Proud.

Movie Review: Boss Baby Had a Great Premise But Not Much Laughs

To be honest, this was not a movie that was on my list to see at first. Adapted from the 2010 children’s book for the same name written and illustrated by Maria Frazee comes the latest DreamWorks Animation feature Boss Baby. The trailer at first didn’t catch my attention as a must see but as I kept watching different trailers close to the release date I started laughing more and more so I figured why not. As long as it’s not a movie like Norm of the North I couldn’t have been that bad. Unfortunately, what I saw didn’t translate well watching the full feature.

The movie had a brilliant voice cast using Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, Steve Buscemi, and Tobey Maguire to play the main characters. Leading this feature is Alec Baldwin, who is the perfect actor to play Boss Baby, a briefcase business savvy baby sent to investigate and stop a plot that is making people love baby’s less. The story is told through Boss Baby’s older brother Tim who is use to being an only child and now has to share his parents with the new baby becomes suspicious and finds out that his little brother is no ordinary baby.

Movie Review: Saban’s Power Rangers Is a Great Example Of What A Reboot Is Suppose To Look Like.

Saban’s Power Rangers directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), took a childhood TV show and made it modern and up to date while keeping its core essence intact from where it started. This is a definitely a reboot as we get an origin story of how five teenagers who don’t know each other being brought together by fate to become the next generation of superheroes to protect the town of Angel Grove as well as Earth from menacing alien creatures and villains who want to conquer Earth.

I honestly welcome reboots and remakes because it’s a way to see a story and characters you already know and told from a different perspective. These movies should definitely be used towards material that was not good the first or maybe even second time around (Hint Hint Super Mario Bros.

Double Take: The Witches

“You are DOOMED old woman. You are DOOMED FOREVER!”

What can I say about the movie The Witches that you don’t already know or feel about it. This is one of those movies that you have either never seen/heard of before or you have and the film was apart of your childhood. I don’t recall anyone saying this film was bad. This movie, even though I haven’t watched it since I was a kid, is a fun and wonderful adaptation from the book I would watch all the time along with Labyrinth. It was sort of my double creature feature when I was young. This film along with another good called The Worst Witch started my love of witches in film.

For those who have never seen this movie, watch the trailer in all it’s 90’s glory and read my opinion on the film after watching it over two to three decades later.
