Movie Review: The Accountant

Suspense! action! comedy! An accountant gave me all of that and more.

If an accountant tells you that his or her job is boring or not exciting, I wouldn’t believe them after seeing this film. So, I actually didn’t want to see this movie. At least not right away. It wasn’t a movie that I wanted to see right away. Watching the trailer I wasn’t too intrigued that I had to see it right away. Eventually I broke down and decided to see it. I mean, the cast alone is worth a look. I am glad that I decided to go. What a great film The Accountant turned out to be.

Ben Affleck stars as an accountant Christian Wolff  which you may think is code for a different profession. He actually does some accounting. Turns out he is really good with numbers amongst other skills. He is assigned to a big corporation to find some missing money that Dana Cummings, played by Anna Kendrick, she noticed while going over the books. Christian uncovers something while doing some research uncovers a conspiracy that requires him to use his other skills to stay alive and get to the bottom of it all.

Affleck was amazing in this movie. While playing in a crime drama he managed to take his character and make him interesting funny but also someone you don’t want to mess with all at once. Aside from Affleck, you’ve got John Lithgow, Jon Bernthal, Jeffery Tambor, Jean Smart, and J.K. Simmons our future commissioner Gordon to Ben Affleck’s Batman soon. The story you are watching has a bit of mystery to it as well for those viewers who enjoy putting together a piece of a puzzle in a film. All the characters are interesting and likable. The pace and tone are solid. There is hardly and quiet or dull moment in the movie. This film is very entertaining. Something else that stood out to me was that the movie didn’t play on many movie cliché’s either. What you expect to happen in a movie from beginning to end involving a crime drama stepped out of the norm on this one. So that makes this movie unpredictable as well.

So if you happen to be someone who enjoys a good drama with a bit of humor, this is a movie for you. There were a few parts of the movie I was able to figure out so not sure if you would to but if figuring out the mystery makes the movie less entertaining for you, this may be a rental for you but it is a must see in my opinion. I think this movie will surprise you.

+1 Funny, great action, entertaining all the way through
+1 Great acting from everyone especially from Affleck
+1 Compelling story and crime drama. Wrapped up really well too.
+1 Definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Affleck
+1 This movie has something to watch a second time or even a third.
