So I am sure you have notice my absence for a couple of months. For those who have been following me and currently reading this post, I want to thank you for sticking with me but to also apologize for not keeping up with my blog. I decided to go back to school and that has been taking up a lot of my time. Even though I didn’t have much time to write my reviews, school didn’t stop me from keeping up with the movies. I have been going to the movies as often as I can and with this post I want to catch you up with my opinion of some of the movies I’ve seen in the pass couple of months. I am going to start with comedies for this first post.
SO LET’S BEGIN
“Dirty Grandpa” Starring Zac Efron and Robert DeNiro. This wasn’t a bad movie. Didn’t meet all my expectations going in. I laughed throughout the movie but I left unsatisfied because the movie was predictable and a little too racist for my taste.
+1 Funny, laughed out loud, didn’t snooze.
+1/2 on writing. Predictable and pretty offensive
+1 Believable acting from Efron and DeNiro given the parts they played.
+0 No need to watch this a second time.
Total points 2 1/2 out total points of 5
“Deadpool” Starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, and TJ Miller. Before watching this movie, my only exposure to Deadpool was that awful video game I played on the Xbox360. So it was a great surprised that this movie turned out to be one of the geekiest, funniest, and greatest comedies I have seen this year so far. I liked the origin story of how the Merc with the mouth was created. If you are not familiar with Deadpool, he is aware of his existence as a character so he does a lot of narrating and breaking the forth wall. If that annoys you, this is not the movie for you. Ryan Reynolds is perfect for this role and glad to hear there will be a sequel.
+1 Hilarious movie, entertaining from start to finish
+1 for writing. Writing was great, the flashback format was an interesting tactic
+1 acting. Great performances both in speech and action. Loved the fight scenes
+1 recommendation. Definitely recommend this movie. Especially for the comic book geeks and geeks alike
+1 I would watch this movie again since I am sure there are plenty of jokes and Easter eggs that I missed during the first go around.

“Fifty Shades of Black” Starring Marlon Wayans and Kali Hawk. When you watch a movie like this you know what you are getting yourself into. A spoof of “Fifty Shades of Grey” with a black twist and lots of humor, is pretty par with the other spoofs Wayans has done in the past. Some jokes fell flat of course as you can see them coming a mile away. The comedy is better if you have seen “Fifty Shades of Grey” As the plot of FSOB is based on the outline of FSOG.
+1/2 Kept my attention but fell flat more than I expected. I laughed out loud a few times.
+1/2 Not bad acting. Jane Seymour I’ve got to say surprised me with the lines she was given. her character stood out.
+1/2 on writing. I’ve seen some solid spoofs and this movie was a little lazy in some of the punchlines.
+0 recommendation. Not a movie I would tell my friends to see but if you love his other spoofs, this one will deliver just like his previous ones.
+0 There are a few scenes I would like to see again but the movie as a whole doesn’t need to be repeated.

“How to Be Single” starring Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson. This movie is as sloppy as the relationships shown in this movie. It was really all over the place with its storylines. First of all, if you think the four women who are on the poster sitting together all know each other in the movie, you are mistaken. One of the characters doesn’t even associate with the rest of the girls. Some of the decisions made by these women on how they handle their life and their men was not entertaining but annoying. I will say this, I found the men they were dating a lot more interesting then the four leads. They actually gave storylines and character development to the supporting male characters in the movie.
+1/2 I didn’t fall asleep or walk out but its not a good movie
+1 Acting was good as it could get. They definitely got a rise out of me so their performances must have been believable.
+0 on writing. The pace and edit of the script wasn’t good. The time jump and going back and forth between storylines was hard to follow.
+0 I can’t recommend this movie. I want to but not good enough to recommend.
+0 I wouldn’t see this movie again.

Zootopia starring Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. “Zootopia” was such a delight. When any movie is first announced, especially a teaser trailer to characters you don’t know. You kind of approach it with a grain of salt because we are so use to watching sequels and remakes of characters we already know. Let me just say as more ads and commercials were release I got more excited to watch this movie and it paid of in spades. This movie not only was hilarious from beginning to end but it was beautifully illustrated from the human like characteristics in speech and body movement down to the fur on their bodies moving so life like. There was actually a story and mystery to solve within the movie to which is something I didn’t expect. You add one of the catchiest songs of 2016 so far sung by Shakira and you have a hit.
+1 Very funny, entertaining, no dull moment.
+1 on writing. Great chracteres, smart storyline, and tons of Easter eggs to keep you on your toes. A movie for both kids and adults
+1 Acting. great voice cast. Great pairing to the characters they were voicing
+1 I highly recommend this movie to everyone. Unless you hate cartoons, you will like this movie.
+1 I would see this movie again and also plan to purchase it for my collection.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 Starring Nia Vardalos and John Corbett. the whole Greek family and the Windex are back for another go around with another wedding to plan and a teenage daughter of our lead characters having to deal with her Greek relatives around all the time. This movie follows the same formula as the family friendly comedy with a little drama thrown in there to give it much heart. They threw in a couple of other story lines involving some of the side characters which was a nice touch. Basically if you enjoyed the first one, you will find this just as adorable. This was a solid movie but not as par as the first. I saw this movie on a Sunday afternoon to pass the time and that is what it’s for. I got a good laugh out of it which is what I wanted but other than that you get nothing more.
+1 a comedy that made me laugh. Nice to see the fam back together again.
+1 acting was solid. Andrea Martin of course is the MVP of the movie.
+1/2 Writing was okay. Predictable plot. Failed attempt to create drama or tension.
+1/2 recommend this to anyone who loved the first one. Okay sequel but not great
+0 Eh. I’d rather watch the first one again.

The Boss Starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristin Bell. What a FUCKING hilarious movie. Sorry for the language but after watching a movie like this, you can’t help but use curse words in every sentence for the next 5 mins. walking out of this raunchy over the top comedy. Melissa hits it out of the park with what she does best…be a bitch with a heart of gold. I thought Melissa and Kristin made a great team. The character created by Melissa and her husband, Ben Falcone, who has a cameo in the movie. Most people would call this movie mediocre but just look at the source and the type of movies they like. I’d say if you like a female driven comedy with a ton of girl power then this is a movie to watch. Its got a hint of “Troop Beverly Hills” feel to it. Some jokes fall flat or just too ridiculous to laugh at. This is a comedy you can definitely turn your brain off to watch. Plus, you will see Peter Dinklage as you have never seen him before.
+1 Definitely laugh out loud funny.
+1 Acting was good. When the supporting characters make you laugh then the acting is good.
+1/2 writing was okay. Simple plot. Hilarious one liners.
+1/2 I recommend this movie but as a movie to watch at home. No rush to see it at the movies.
+1 I would definitely watch this movie again. Very funny movie.
