Movie Review: Sisters

The dynamic funny duo are back with their latest comedy that proves that 80’s still RULE, women actors need to get paid more, and a comedy even a raunchy one can still be charming with a lot of heart.

This updated Can’t Hardly Wait brings two sisters, Maura and Kate Ellis together played by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey respectively, who throw the party of the year in their childhood home before its sold to new owners.

Can I just say that this movie is one of the funniest comedies I have seen this year. I was laughing from beginning to end. It was a much needed laugh as well. These two are funny women and funnier when they are together. Their chemistry together are so good that playing sisters is second nature to them.

The story is pretty straight forward so not much to the plot of the film but what is good about it is that it leaves a lot open to the imagination and sometimes you have no idea what to expect. Especially since this movie is a hard R rating, you can expect TONS of swearing, drug use, lots of sexual innuendos. All done in a funny way. You are also going to come across plenty of SNL (Saturday Night Live) alums old and new throughout the movie. As well as some cameos who have no reason to be in the film but just to be in it. I don’t know if anyone is watching the new show Life in Pieces. The show just premiered this past fall season and the parents of the show Josh Brolin and Dianne Wiest (who I LOVE) are also the parents in this movie and they even have a moment of two that made me laugh out loud.

This is what you can also expect from this movie is the leads versatility in their acting. So we have all seen them in the movie Baby Mama. Do we still like that movie by the way or did we forget about it? I still think its funny. Anyways, in that movie Tina Fey plays the straight lace responsible character. By the book, always has a plan. While Amy Poehler played the sloppy, go with the flow messy DG2Fs. In this one, the roles are reversed and Tina Fey’s character is the fun messy one and Amy is the responsible one. It was really good to see Tina Fey play this part. She definitely shined in this film in my opinion. Something to think about Ferrell and Walhberg. Yes, Im talking to yous guys in Daddy’s home. I really wanted Ferrell to play the bad ass dad and Walhberg as more of the sensitive dad.

So what I will say is that some jokes, a short list, but some jokes do fall flat or are over done too much in the movie. The love story seemed a bit forced and not believable but remember its all done in an entertaining way. I didn’t see a boring moment in the movie but you still won’t see anything new that you haven’t seen before in the film so it really comes down to do you trust Amy and Tina’s humor. If so, check this movie out. You won’t regret it. I didn’t.

+1 for staying awake. No dull moments. Very funny.
+1 acting is good. Versatility in their characters
+1 Lots of funny jokes. Cliche’ story but very funny
+1 Highly recommend this movie.
+1 I could watch this movie again. I am sure I will hear something I didn’t hear before.
